Welcome to the First United Methodist Church of Rusk, Texas!

We pray that you sense the presence of God's Spirit among us and that your worship experience here draws you closer to Him. Come share your faith and fellowship with us. You're always welcome here at First Methodist Rusk!

For over 100 years, we have proudly shared Christ's love with our community. We invite you to visit and be a part of our growing congregation!

From our Bell Choir to our Lay Ministry to our Youth & Children's Programs to service in local care facilities, we welcome you to get involved and be a part of our ministry serving our members and community. The blessings you receive through service are immeasurable!

So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all....Galatians 6:10

A Time for Everything....

"There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1). I am very sure that most if not all of you have heard these words before. They are words that can be applied to individuals and churches. 1st UMC-Rusk and I are about to enter into another season.

By now you are aware that my season here at 1st UMC-Rusk has come to a close. I can truly say that this has been a good season in many ways for me. I can only pray that a majority of you can say that the season that I was your servant was a good season.

I want to thank each and every one of you who worked to make 1st UMC-Rusk a Christ centered church. A church that looks outward and when a need in the community is seen works to do something about that need. I appreciate those of you who stepped out of your comfort zone and took on ministries that shared the love of Christ.

I leave knowing that 1st UMC-Rusk is in good hands. I leave knowing that under the shepherding of your new pastor, Rev. Jacob Smith 1st UMC-Rusk will continue to grow. I pray that you will offer Rev. Smith your total support and love him and his family.

Melissa and I appreciate the many acts of love you showed us during our stay here. We carry with us many fond memories of the "Best Darn Small Church in Texas". We will continue to pray for you as you continue to serve the Lord.

Blessings,
Melissa & Chuck

Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God........Corinthians 10:31

FAREWELL TO THE PASTOR.........
By now, most have heard that Pastor Chuck is retiring at the end of May. His time here has been short and we want to wish he and Melissa the best in retirement. As a congregation, we have all benefitted from him being here at Rusk FUMC.

On Sunday, May 27th, we will have a pot luck lunch after service and send Chuck and Melissa off in style. If you would like to contribute to a love offering for them, please send it to the office and designate "Chuck’s retirement gift".

After the lunch, we will give them the gift with a few words of encouragement as they move forward in this new stage of their lives.

MEET THE NEW PASTOR......
I grew up in Jacksonville, TX where my family has lived for generations. I went to Stephen F. Austin State University and studied Communications. That is where I met my wife, Claire. I then attended Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas. I graduated with my Masters in Divinity in 2009 and received my first appointment as the associate pastor at FUMC Pearland. I was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church last year.

Claire and I will be celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary and our daughter, Adelaide's 2nd birthday this summer.

Jacob Smith
